Janice Sequeira is a well-known content creator, anchor, ex-broadcast editor, and media strategist. She is the creator and anchor of the popular YouTube talk show series, "Social Media Star With Janice", where she pairs internet sensations with mainstream personalities.

 

She came to SCM for a guest lecture. While conversing with Jaideep Giridhar, a visiting faculty member of SCM and her ex-boss at First Post, she talked at length about the process of content creation and entertainment news reporting. She recalled her journey of shifting from a traditional news reporting format to a digital newsroom and how she went on to create her own YouTube talk show. Upon further probing from the students, she shared the behind-the-scenes work that goes on while conducting celebrity interviews and how she managed to do them with a small crew. 

While talking to Giridhar, she recalled how she pitched her idea to him for the popular “Star with Janice” show to be aired on First Post channels. Giridhar shared that she made a significant breakthrough by signing a contract which ensured that she would be the owner and proprietor of the show and not First Post, how it should carry her name and the channel should be just a mediator. This helped her a lot when she decided to quit and continue the show on her own YouTube channel, which now has over 466k subscribers. 

 

It was an exciting lecture and helped the students gain more insight into the world of media and content creation.
